Project
Lithuanian Roma platform – going local
V Phase, 2021–2023 m.
From August 15, 2021, the fifth part of the project "Lithuanian Roma Platform – going local" began, lasting for two years. During the project, a new Roma platform was established in Marijampolė, while the mediators who had been working for several years continued their activities in Vilnius, Kybartai, and Jonava. These cities have a significant Roma population, so the help of mediators is crucial in addressing social, educational, and other issues.
This phase of the project focused largely on Roma youth. Most of the events were organized specifically for young people, aiming to promote their civic engagement, self-confidence, and responsibility for their future. Roma youth were introduced to volunteering to facilitate smoother integration into the job market in the future.
During the project, events were held to present Roma culture and history, as well as to raise awareness about the Roma genocide during World War II.
Books were also published in English, including the Lithuanian Roma Oral History Archive and a comic book titled "Draw Me a Path."
The project organizers and participants actively visited various municipalities across Lithuania to familiarize themselves with the situation of the Roma living there and their opportunities to be involved in the project.
During these visits, a connection was made with the Troškūnai municipal government, and the gymnasium in Troškūnai received financial assistance for teaching assistants working with Roma students.
The fifth part of the project lasted until August 14, 2023.
The project budget amounted to EUR 197,000.
