Project
Lithuanian Roma platform – going local
III Phase, 2019–2020 m.
In 2019–2020, the Department of National Minorities under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania implemented the third phase of the project "Lithuanian Roma Platform – going local" funded by the European Commission.
To address the integration, social inclusion, education, healthcare, and employment issues relevant to the Roma community and ensure smoother dialogue between local government representatives and the Roma community, coordinators-intermediaries of the "Roma Platforms" worked in Vilnius, Jonava, and Kybartai. The intermediary working in Vilnius helped Roma residents of the Kirtimai settlement search for housing in the city.
Considering the needs and issues of the Roma community, during the implementation of the project, seminars and training sessions were organized for Roma women and youth, activities for children, a seminar for teachers on the Roma genocide, and meetings with local government representatives and the Roma community in municipalities. To assess the changes in the situation of the Roma community according to the objectives of the Roma Integration into Lithuanian Society Action Plan for 2015–2020, a comparative analysis was conducted with project funds.
By employing coordinators-intermediaries, Roma community problems were addressed more effectively, and cooperation with municipalities became smoother. During the project, training sessions were organized for educators working with Roma children, equipping teachers with specific knowledge on the peculiarities of Roma children's education. Special attention was given to Roma women, encouraging them to take on leadership roles. Meetings with Roma coordinators and consultations with municipal representatives were also held.
The total value of the project was 68,000 euros.
The project was implemented from August 2019 to August 2020.
