The Baltic Region Roma Women Association was established on 5th of December 2017. The initiative to establish this kind of organization was born during the training for Roma youth organized by the Council of Europe and the Lithuanian Roma community in November 2017. During the training, it became clear that the most vulnerable and insecure part of the Roma community are women, even children have more social protection, not to mention men.
The Baltic Region Roma Woman Association, together with the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Roma communities, which actively supported the idea of establishing this association, created an action plan and started its activities with joint Lithuanian and Latvian projects.
Its purpose is to promote the involvement of Roma women in social activities, to help them integrate into society, to become a more active part of it, and to help solve their problems. The association is engaged in non-formal education activities, civic education, professional development, organization of events for Roma women and other similar activities.
The head and founder of the association is Vaiva Poškaitė-Kovaliuk.
