November 5 is an International Day of the Roma Language. On that occasion, on November 8, at 5:30 p.m., an event dedicated to the celebration of the Day of the Roma Language will be held in the Jewish community cafe “Beigelių Krautuvėlė” (Pylimo St. 4).

During the festive event, excerpts from the Lithuanian Roma oral history archive will be read in the Roma and Lithuanian languages. We will learn about the history of the Roma, old customs and traditional dishes. We will also hear Roma folk songs and we will be able to admire traditional Roma dances. During the evening, the important question as what the native language means to us and how can we preserve it for future generations will be raised.

The event is free. During the event, postcards created by children with a short vocabulary of the Roma-Lithuanian words will be distributed.
